December 3 is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD). First proclaimed in 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly, the day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilise support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. The International Communication Project (ICP) marks the day because it advocates for people with communication disabilities, seeks to raise the profile of communication disabilities, and seeks to have them recognised accordingly. ICP continues its strong advocacy work – an update
The International Communication Project has been advocating with and for people with communication disability since 2014. Recently, despite the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic, much has been happening. With the publication of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in 2015, upon which the UN will measure impact of its work until 2030, the ICP took the opportunity to make the case for people with communication disability.
